Doctor Do More – Local Star of the Central Coast set to shine

12 local community stars have been selected to be ambassadors for Cancer Council NSW, including shining star Dr Ash Bowden aka Doctor Do More and are putting on their dancing shoes as contestants of Stars of the Central Coast. The local Stars have been partnered with a professional dancer and will learn a routine which they will then perform on stage at Laycock Street Theatre on Friday 15th May 2020.

Dr Ash Bowden, a passionate emergency doctor who has also launched a free search engine, http://do-more.live/ to help people on the Coast find physical activities that suits them is delighted to be supporting this fantastic event.

Bowden lost his father to a brain tumour in 2013. His father, Andrew first sought help when he noticed his vision was affected while out running. He underwent chemo- and radiotherapy and two operations to remove as much of the tumour as possible. Andrew lived for 4 years after his diagnosis, a high-grade glioma in his occipital lobe with an average survival time of 12 months. During this time, he kept running with his local running club and together Ash and his dad ran the Bupa 10,000 in London. “Dad’s vision was affected quite significantly by this point, so I ran as his guide-dog. My favourite photo of us is at the finish line, how I’ll always remember him being a role model even through illness” recalls Bowden.

Dr Ash Bowden (Doctor Do More) has been allocated Latin as his dance style. “My wonderful dance partner, Lauren will be teaching me moves that we’ll showcase on May 15th, 2020. Until then I plan to bring the active community of the Central Coast together to help me fundraise and maybe even lead a lesson or two while I’m at work in Emergency!” says Bowden.

The 2020 star line up includes Claire Garrard (Leading Edge Fitness), Justine Kearney (ABC Radio), Meg MacIntosh (5 Star Day Spa), Kyla Daniels (Cakes By Kyla), Katie Stokes (Playing in Puddles), Stacey Short (Rollergirl Promotions), Adam Crouch (MP), Mick Morely (East Coast Roofing & Men of Football), Steve Allan (NRL commentator and MC), Ben Bradley (GM Davistown RSL), Elia Eliopoulou (Remy & Co Pasta Bar).

Doctor Do More and his fellow Stars will be busy fundraising in the lead up to the event with funds raised being used towards the local services available for cancer patients and their families here on the Central Coast. These services include financial and legal support, home meal delivery, practical home help with cleaning and lawn mowing services, support groups, counselling and information and support.

Cancer Council are thrilled to have Doctor Do More onboard this season. Jaynie Maloney  and her team are “keen supporters of Dr Ash and all he is doing to promote physical activity and health and wellbeing on the coast” says Maloney. “He is a welcome addition to the stars family and it also gives him a great opportunity to fulfil his two passions of physical activity and helping those in need”.
